kook911
I have bought the years 1987 and 1990 speedometer and neither of them fit the back part. I am just trying to figure out what year this is so I can purchase the correct cable. I tried google the part numbers and got nothing. The problem I keep having is that the plastic piece will not slide over. It seems like the plastic piece is not long enough.
johnj92131
Mid to late 1987 to 1990. Early 1987 AMC had different Tach and Speedo face. The tach started at 8:00 and had white letters. 1991 went to white plastic and the electronic speedo. 4 or 6 cylinder, I can not say.
Eagle
Are you squeezing the outer ring on the plastic piece to get it to slide over the locking groove or ridge or whatever it is that retains the cable? If your speedo cable has a white(ish) nylon/plastic retainer, you have the correct cable.
kook911
I tried to get it to slide over but it doesn't seeme to fit. On the gauges that came with the truck, the cable slides over and fits like it should but when I try it with the gauges in the picture it will not fit. To me it needs just a hair more and it will fit, but it seems that it is just a tad longer. ( I am talking about the male piece that the cable slides into). So i don't know what to do.
