Welding Ford 8.8 questions

Recommended Posts

I'm welding my ford 8.8 axle tubes to the differential tomorrow and I would like to know what steps are involved. Also I would like to know if you need to remove the internals like the ring and pinion and carrier and all that! Thanks again guys.

We just threw a few stick welds on each tube end, And called it good. Actually welded to it quite easily. You don't have to remove the internals to weld it, Just make sure you don't let it get TOO hot.

When welding steel to cast it is often recommended that you heat the cast up first. You can use MAP gas for this. Another idea is to weld a little on one side and a little on the other rather than one continuous burn on each side. This might help to prevent "drawing" the tube and bending if. You would probably be better off with a wider internet search for I ideas on this. A lot more people than jeepers do it.
