stupid u bolt question

if my axle (AMC 20) measures 2 3/4", should I buy 3" u bolts? the Dana 35 that came out of it measures 2 1/2" and the parts catalogs list a 2 3/4" u bolt for it.

A u-bolt for a 2.5 tube will be over sized to fit the tube.......>IOWs you do not order an over sized bolt.
