looking to swap the column shifter on my 87 to an xj on the floor shifter

i wanna swap my 87 column shifter to an xj shifter so i can have cup holders! but i was worried that the shifter cable on an 97+ xj shifter cable wouldn't hook up to my tranny. any ideas or pictures that show it works would help. thanks

On both my 90 and 95 aw4s the arm that the cable hooks to on the transmission side is a lever that is held on by a nut, I'm sure that if the newer version is different you could just swap that lever over fairly easily. I'm not sure though but from what I can imagine it should be pretty simple.
