Spectormj Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Just a bit rough looking but a good platform  can't wait to see more
jahlborn Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 It had a front clip, I had just peeled it off earlier that day haha. I'll post more later, Photobucket is not being very kind right now.
jahlborn Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Some more pictures of the comanche when I bought it.
Spectormj Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Was the snowman included? cause if it was theres a good way to use the HOV lane
jahlborn Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 I pulled the drivetrain and sold it, and kept the front 3-link suspension and rear axle. The rear AMC 20 still won't be used for the comanche though.
jahlborn Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Was the snowman included? cause if it was theres a good way to use the HOV lane I have no idea where that snowman came from. I think one of my roommates stole it when he was drunk.
jahlborn Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 And I was finally able to move into a new house with a heated garage so I can work on this thing through the winter months
Spectormj Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 stealing snowmen thats a classic least you have a garage to work in I'm stuck doing it in a parking lot
jahlborn Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Rebuilt, drilled, tapped and plugged a PS box for future use...
jahlborn Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Grooved a spare down to the cords to look kind of like a TSL, 36x12.5 Grand Prix.
jahlborn Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 So here's the front suspension from the XJ thats going in to the MJ. Its a hidden 3 link with a panhard that flexes pretty damn well. I never had a problem with it, so that's what I hope to run.
jahlborn Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Started to cut off the front link mounts...
jahlborn Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 The plan here is to reinforce the unibody rails with 1/4" plate where the crossmember will bolt to so I have something solid. The unibody is in pretty good shape everywhere but where the crossmember will go.
jahlborn Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 I cut out the middle section of the rails because they were pretty rough and I want to weld nuts on to the back side so I can pull the crossmember off easily if needed.
jahlborn Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Then came the reinforcing. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I have a little more work to do on the passenger side rail farther back, but for now, it'll hold up fine.
Ronbo Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Nice start I look forward to seeing what you do with it. Ron
jahlborn Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Oh yeah, and I picked up a 99 XJ for $900. I'm going to DD it through the winter and then tear into it as the donor.
jahlborn Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Okay, for the most part, I think I've caught up to present day. I really should have started a build thread a while ago..
Spectormj Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 for a late start its really detailed and a good build
jahlborn Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Updated the OP with more ideas of the plans scattered in a list.
jahlborn Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 Going try and finish up reinforcing the unibody this weekend. I've got spring break next week so hopefully I can sand sand blast a bit and maybe break out the POR15.
jahlborn Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 Finished reinforcing the passenger side of the unibody so thats all done. I wanted to add a bit more on that side just because it felt a little weak in that area. Better to be safe than sorry.
