StephensMJ
Hello all, I'm Stephen and I am 23. I'm in the process of buying my first jeep, I'm glad I chose the MJ. I'm paying 500 for it. I don't know the year I was just a little flustered when the guy told me only 500. It's the 6 cyl 4x4 with a 5 speed. It has a camper top on it right now. I have pictures I'll post them tomorrow. It only needs a couple of tires aired up to be able to drive. I'm really stoked on it. I was originally looking for a Datsun, I had an 84 Datsun pick up last summer but the girlfriend at the time made me sell it. I went through a few cars and they just couldn't fill the void from having a truck then having to get rid of it. So I'm glad to be joining the jeeping community. I have to wait like 4 weeks until I get the keys and title which is really bumming me out. But I'm buying it off and elderly fellow who has I think had it since new I'll have to ask him more about it this weekend. Good thing is it's sitting in my moms yard at her new place so I know it's safe. My plans for it are to make sure it's going to be dependable (it's going to be my DD). Get some wheels for it, some tires, and paint. I want to do a suspension lift but I don't see myself doing anything too extreme in it for awhile. I will go mudding with my friends who have 4x4's but nothing like rock crawling for a few years maybe. I do want a winch plate bumper, and I would love to find a snorkel but I haven't been able to find any online. I may not of looked hard enough. But if anyone has any pointers I would love the input. OH yeah, it's grey and the only body damage is the twisted rear bumper. How do you know what sub model it is? I know mine has chrome bumpers and that's really the only difference I see from most pictures I've seen. Thanks.
87Warrior
Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the love/hate Jeep relationship you will develop with it. Be sure to post lots of pictures. We like pictures
StephensMJ
Thanks! I will definitely be posting a lot of pictures. I'm super excited for this. It's also my first 4x4 so I can basically take it anywhere unlike my past truck.
Keyav8r
Get the VIN and use the VIN decoder ti determine year, model, etc. the decoder is one of the pinned topics in the DIY Projects section. You'll find lots of useful information on your truck in that section and the Random Information Pictures topics under DIY. And, there are some big kahuna gurus on the forum with mucho MJ mojo who will help you with the problems that WILL arise. Welcome to the joy/misery of MJ ownership. StephensMJ
Ha thanks. I just hope I can get it ready for this summer. I want to take it out with my friends and get it broken in.
StephensMJ
These are the only pictures I have of it so far. You can kind of tell but in this one the rear bumper is twisted. I'm not sure if the guy bumped something or tried to pull something with the bumper. I want to get rid of this bumper and get a winch plate bumper, get a winch and a sweet light bar. Anyone ever put an aftermarket steering wheel in these? I want a wood steering wheel. Sorry for the quality. But this is my MJ, I just need to think of what color I want it and how much lift I want, and what do you guys have for exhaust set ups?
jimoshel
Looks like a good buy. 10-4 on the pics. The steering column in MJ'S are GM. Shouldn't be to hard to find something like you want.
StephensMJ
Yeah I wanted to get one from this company called Grip Royal. I love their wheels, they are painted wood wheels. They look really good.
