What Year 4.0 Will Fit??

What year 4.0 will work in our trucks I got a 89 and would like to know what my year ranges are. Thanks Brandon

87-90 ( direct bolt on ) 91-99 head, intake and flexplate are different 00-01 not a 100 % sure on those

What would I have to do to get a 97 model

Motor to work in my 89 comanche

Use your old head , change the flexplate over , and if I were you I would buy a new temp sensor and put it in the 97 thermostat housing

And all your 89 external parts should be bolted on your 97 block

Ok guys thanks for the info I am going to look at this motor on Saturday it's in a Cherokee with no tranny so I can't drive it but I can hear it run. Anything that I should look for or any advise on buying a used motor?

Check for lifter noise , oil pressure , clean oil , chech for sludge and antifreeze. What's the mileage ? How is the rest of the jeep maintained ? It kinda gives an idea as to how long you should get out of the motor in my opinion
