New member here, would first like to say thank you to everyone for all the helpful information on here.

So I have a 1991 comanche 4x4, it had the 4.0 in it with a manual. Stripped it all down and now I'm starting the conversion. For that I have a 2001 cherokee sport 4x4 with 4.0 and automatic. I'm planing a full swap, everything.

After reading a few of the forums in the build section, I've come up with my plan for the firewall part of the project. Again thank you for those write ups, they really help. So where I'm having problems is which one of the two cross members is best to use? And how did everyone get it mounted? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Andrew

Firewall part of the project? To go from a '91 to an '01 there's nothing to change about the firewall.

Use the cross member that belongs with the transmission and transfer case you'll be using.

The 91 has a one-of-a-kind pass-through firewall connector for the engine harness, so you will have to adapt the firewall to the 01 harness connector. The pedal assembly mounting will be different since you will be going from a manual tranny to auto so it might require drilling some new mounting holes and use of nutserts. The AW4 transmission harness through the firewall will also be different. Probably will be some other differences for mechanical and electrical firewall pass-throughs but none should be major.

The 01 cross-member should bolt into the 91 for the AW4 with no modifications.

Sounds like you are on the right path regarding the 97+ firewall modifications.

Agreed.
