Storing An Empty Fuel Tank

I have a 16gal tank from my parts truck that I will be cleaning up the exterior and putting into long term storage. I am wondering what methods have been used by anyone on here to preserve a tank off the truck and empty. It will have to be able to handle weather from -10F to 110F since it will be in an unheated storage unit. I pulled the fuel sending unit out a few weeks ago to use as a reference in troubleshooting some fuel flow issues I had on my dd. My first thoughts are to place the sending unt into a vacuum sealed bag, wire brush and paint/coat the exterior of the tank and seal the openings. Since it is going to be long term storage inside, keeping fuel in it is not an option. What products does anyone have any experience with for coating the inside of the tank?
