1988 Comanche - First Jeep.

^That.  My current T-case is from a 93 ZJ which comes with an electric speed sensor and no Vacuum setup on those either.  I have a Posi-Lock installed for the CAD at the moment, and the speedo is simply a matter of swapping over the mechanical drive from the factory T-case into the place of the VSS.  They use the same mounting position and more or less drive gear.  There are some Variances (short vs long shaft) but it is all pretty well documented.

Now I just need to snag a Ford 8.8 and a non CAD Dana 30 when I have some avail funds.  Then I just need to install Truetracs into both and my driveline goals will be complete...  Just need those funds

In a bit of a debate about what gear ratio and tire combo I want to run.  My end goal is to do a TDI swap.  I could stick with 3.55's and rock 31's and be pretty OK.  I would prefer 3.73's or 4.10's, both of which are easy to get in the ford axle.  Even harder to find in a D30 around here than my new 242 was.

Decided to inspect the 242 so I tore into it.   It was a pleasant surprise to find it was rather clean on the inside, and besides the magnet having a bit of metal shaving on it, no signs of any catastrophic damage or abuse.  I did find the magnet from the sump area stuck to the chain, which was interesting.  The chain itself definitely has a little slack to it, so I'm probably going to get a new one.  Most of the bearings, while they spin freely, do have a bit of a gritty sound to them as well.  I figure I will order an overhaul kit for it along with the chain and a new pump and filter.  Open to any suggestions on a good kit, or if I should just go with individual parts.

Here's the chain.  Sorry if my big gorilla hands are in the way lol.

Really nice work, man.  Much more mechanically inclined to take on those jobs, especially the wiring, than I am.  I'm not afraid of work, but know little compared to me going through this thread and the work you did.

You know, I may have talked to you a few months ago when I was gassing up the company Escape at the gas station on 108th.  I work in that red brick building across from First Data.

Anyway, your truck has really come a long way.

Thanks.  I have plans to do more work to it now that I have a second running/driving vehicle (my goldwing) so I can afford to put it down for a day or two.  I am going to attempt to get the floors replaced, and fix a sport or two of rust on the bed, before winter this year and try to get it all undercoated/sealed up.  Then I can hunt down a 97+ Nose and doors to do that conversion as well, but that may have to wait until next spring.
