The twist keeps the loop from folding flat and makes it easier to hook around things where you may not be able to hold the loop open and slip it over the object at the same time. Again I know this is something we all know but it never hurts to say it again: never use a metal-hooked strap for extractions. They can kill you. carnuck Posted November 1, 2013 Share Posted November 1, 2013 I've always used logging chains because they drop when something comes apart, but recently my buddy was using his mini dozer to try to remove the stump of a BIG cottonwood we cut down 4 years ago. He went back and forth tugging it several times, then tried a long run. The hook broke (he didn't wrap the stump twice) and flew off.
