Yes, but you did ground yourself as soon as you touched that wooden post, which completed the circuit. Either way, the advice for everyone to take away from this is: Electric fence BAD, haha.

indeed it is lol, i think sunday if it's not rainin i'll tackle that bedline,

Are you asking if you should be sandwiching a ground between the bed and the mount, or sticking the ground on the end of the bolt? If so, then that shouldn't matter so long as you're actually grounding through something, although it wound be better to have the eye of a ground lead against a nut or bolt head.

You should have had some form of setup instructions that came with your radio or antenna. Did you follow them? If not, you should probably do that. If so, you might want to do some research into what might cause a high swr issue. This might be a good place to start.

that's exactly what i'm askin, right now i have my ground lead on a screw/bolt, i just wonder if it's cause of the setup i have, i have followed the instrustions, rechecked and rechecked, but still high SWRs, i'm just wonderin if i should get a new coax and a new antenna stud that way it screws onto the stud as aposused to strippin the coax and havin em added to eye terminal leads,
