Speedo Problems

Recommended Posts

I had a similar problem with mine. When you put it into the tranny, it pushes the speedo shaft inward, and adds slack to the instrument cluster side. I fixed it by taking the cluster out and pushing that end of the speedo shaft in a bit to give more slack on the tranny side, plug it into the tranny making sure it doesn't push.... you know what? This'll fix it, but it's so much easier to just buy a new speedo or get one from a junkyard. Long story short: your right, PO sold you a crap speedo cable.

Are you aware that the "quill" that holds the speedo drive gear -- the piece that you bolt into the transfer case -- has to be oriented properly depending on the number of teeth on the speedo drive gear or it won't work? You can't just bolt it in and assume it's right.
