  1. 1. what should I do with it

    • drive it stock, use it as a DD don't do anything to it.

    • take care of the rust, repaint it and new decals, and DD it
      6
    • same as number 2, except it gets a 6.5" lift and some 33's and a nice front and rear bumper etc. etc. so I can wheel it AND DD it.
      11
    • sell it to one of you guys for an arm and a leg

I'm out of work and have some uh...legal...things on my hands at the moment that may or may not result in it needing to go.

Pat, I hope you can get everything solved quick and painlessly. Legal things can really wreck a person. :redX:

thanks twisty, yea this could wreck me...well, at least hamper me down. I'm looking at it as a learning experience. I made a mistake and now God or someone is trying to set me right. sometimes people make mistakes, and the way I see it, the only thing to do is take a step forward...

I wish Al Sharpton could do the same thing for Don Imus.

Anyways...don't get rid of all the MJ's. Keep at least one jamminz.gif

get rid of all the MJ's?

haha, man i would NEVER do that! the 3800 is a father/son project and it reall means alot to me...I want to have it when my kids get their liscense so that they can put around with it every once in a while or something...it's very sentimental. that's the ONE reason that it doesn't see any off-road use...I really do love the thing.

The black truck may or may not leave...it really all depends on how things go. I have it almost ready to go at the moment and will decide on selling it when this is all done with...depending on how court goes. but if I don't sell it then ALL my money is for court right now...

i hate being an ignorant 20 year old kid who does before he thinks... :P

don't worry. I'm 20 too and have 4 vehicles...all Jeeps. 1 drives, 2 are projects and 1 is parts. NO WAY I can afford to have them on the road. I'm sad to admit that I don't even pay insurance for myself..

hahaha, I've got my nice comanche, which is on the road, this sport truck, which could be on the road in about 10 minutes (after a few hours wait at the DMV), the other white one (project tatersalad), and have had 1 parts cherokee, and now that i tally correctly, 3 parts comanches (2 2.5's, 1 4.0).

I owned a vw cabrio when i started building my 3800 almost 3 years ago, a chevy g-van with a 5.2 diesel (rolled 6 times while on loan to my grandpa's workers to go to indiana), and a mercedes 300SD that had a rusted under-carriage (the engine from that is now in a mid-engine sandrail). 2 sandrails somewhere in there, and my very, very first car was a 1973 vw Baja beetle with a teepee stinger exhaust.

:P that's all between age 15 and 20.

jeepcomj, I have seen many T/C bolts come loose. Remove 1 @ a time, inspect bolt, if ok use blue loctight & reinstall to proper torque, but only after you have checked & reinstalled all 4 (fingertight b4 torque).

thanks, I was wondering about that since it came loose again...

I don't think this was a case of them "coming loose" so much as it is a case of them "never being tightened" ...I got the PO to confess to being a dummy and forgetting to tighten all 4 T/C bolts, and the top 2 torque bolts, right side 18mm bolt, and not putting in the dipstick bolt, on top of messing up the install of the dust cover (it was forked under the upper cover and rubbing the flex plate and T/C bolts).

thanks mjcanoe! I will follow your wisdom :D

jeepcoMJ, Cool!! Good for you. If you have time, don't be afraid to use loctite as will save you grief in future. It sounds like previous owner did trans. swap or something. Not to be paranoid, but make sure trans to engine dowels are in place. They would be @ 2 main bellhousing bolts.

I did the same swap 3 weeks ago on a 96 2 door cherokee...so i'm quite familiar with the system. I locktite-d everything then too.

the dowels are there, (i'm sure of that as that's all that was holding it from FALLING APART :rotf: )

and Idk what he did. but everything looks good and works it feels like the engine needs a bit of a tuneup, but for the $$$ i spent where could I go wrong? I've put some more $$$ into it now though, and hopefully soon I can get what I want outta the truck. It will be 100% mechanically functional, and zero rust on the bottom. just some rust bubbles and typical fender flair rust...I'm debating if I should fix that and paint it (i've never painted a gosh darn car before) or leave it for someone who knows about it to take care of it.

ungh.

i put in the new ujoints on the front axle, new brake shoes as the rotors and calipers were nice, and replaced the hole in the floor...and got the hi-beams to work jamminz.gif  :brows:

so mjcanoe, I took your advice on tightening the torque converter, and it WORKED! :D

BUT.... the flexplate to crankshaft bolts are lose. no wonder it's running choppy...the CPS isn't getting a good reading.

SO i have to pull the tranny...got started by draining the fluid. new too...what a shame. noticed that the drain plug is stripped as well (not my doing). the tranny pan needs a new gasket as well, so time for a new filter (if it doesn't have a new one already...won't hold my breath).

I'm SOOOOOOO PISSED AND THE PO RIGHT NOW! how the #%* do you put in a tranny without torquing the flexplate or torque converter, and without snugging up the bellhousing bolts (only one held it in), and without properly sealing the tranny pan with a new gasket?! :hateputers: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop: :headpop:

it's off the market for a few days while I fix it...postponed a day while I go to madison with some friends, but trying to get it done by monday at noon. if not then postpone again til tuesday...i start rehab on monday for my ankle (like i need it...i've been walking on it the whole time)

!@#$@#%)&*(_^$)(#*&^@#!&*($^!@_##%&$@#%*()#@!*()$&()#!%*^(#)*@%^!@#*(^@~&*(#%^!@*&~#%^)_@$*_#%&*#@(^(!@#%*~&@#^

and i just need the cash...but now i gotta spend some to make some. what happened to easy transactions and worthwhile purchases? scratch the last part, it was 200 bucks :D
