Dome Light Ground Issues & Clearance Lights

Recommended Posts

This will be the first of many questions that I hope the experts here can help me with.

I bought a '92 MJ 4x4 v6 Pioneer with full size bed about 2 years ago. I haven't done anything with it since purchase and probably only put a few hundred miles on it. It suffers from all the usual, ie. rusty floor pans & rockers, droopy headliner, RMS or oil pan leak, valve cover leak....

I have the oil pan, gasket, and RMS for the bottom and a valve cover gasket for the top, just need the time to get them installed.

I also have to replace the blower motor, resistor and the vacuum hose going to the canister in the front bumper. First it was just the blower on high coming out of the defroster but now it doesn't work at all. I jumped the blower directly to the battery and still no luck. Those parts are on order now.

Now for my current question, I have no interior dome lights. I have power to the red wire at the light socket, and when I ground the bulb, it lights up. So I assume the ground is bad, possibly from all the rust. Can you tell me where these lights would be grounded?

Also, were clearance lights a factory option? I have about 6 yellow lights on top of the cab that don't work. I am wondering if they use the same ground as the dome lights.

Thanks for your help.

First clean the dome light contacts, wires and bulb contacts.

The light grounds through the door switches, take one of the door switches out and ground it, see if the light comes on.

Are the switches swiveled to the correct position?

Should be down for the light to come on with the door open.
