Need Help Wiring Added Fuse Box

Recommended Posts

I recently added an interior fuse box inside the cab of my mj to power some of my accessories, ( windows, mirrors, and a few other lights ect

Right now I have my power source coming straight from the battery, but I would like to wire it so that when I turn the ignition forward or on the fuse box gets powered. If not my battery will eventually drain

I was thinking of using the green ignition wire that goes to my starter relay for the trigger, but don't know how to wire it to a relay

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

I have an aux fuse panel directly powered by the battery that protects my power windows and mirrors, driving lights, second electrical fan, and HI/LO H4 headlights. The driving lights, headlights, and fan all have their own switched-ignition relays. The aux fuse panel individual circuit outputs are wired to the load side of the relays. Only my power windows/mirrors are not relayed, simply because I wanted to use them w/o turning on the ignition.

What I'm saying is, you don't normally power up the entire supply side of a auxiliary fuse panel through a relay; you fuse the individual circuit outputs to the from the fuse panel to the relay load contacts that are wired to the devices, like the lights and fans, etc. That way the individual relay coils triggered by the ignition switched supply voltage are protected; the load relay contacts and end devices like the lights and fan are protected by the aux fuse panel. Also the supply voltage input to the new fuse panel should be fused by a fuse large enough to handle 125% of the total load if all the devices on the fuse panel are powered up at once. This is how the factory does it, and it's standard automotive electrical practice.

That makes some scenes, but I'm still confused lol. To keep the constant to the fuse panel, but run a relay to trigger each accessorie? Also does your battery drain from having the windows and mirrors constantly powered ( the lights on the switches being constantly on)

Also do have a diagram of a relay showing which goes where?

This is what I'm picturing

I'm not too bad with electrical, but relays are new to me

Thanks for the quick response
