getbent
looking at doing a 97+ motor swap. I have searched on here and a bunch of other forums and it seems like everyone that has done this is also swapping out the dash and what not too. I am wondering if anyone has done the swap and kept the older dash. I know that none of the gauges from my 88 would work but could I just use some aftermarket ones and still make the truck run? Any info or help on this would be great, Thanks
onlyinajeep726
Why do you think that your gauges won't work? You know you can swap in that '97+ motor and still use the Renix controls and sensors right? Only thing you have to modify to work is the TPS, which is easy to do. Now if you plan on swap computers, wire harness and all that, then you're right to think that gauges won't work. I'd say keep the Renix stuff and just swap the block. onlyinajeep726
In that case find yourself a Renix wiring harness and ECU for the 4.0L then proceed into your '97+ engine block swap.
getbent
A renix harness and ecu around here are few and far between that's why I am looking at the obd2 set up but not really wanting to change the dash. I kinda like the factory one that's in it. and would like to do the swap just don't know if I half to take all of the donor parts or what
Tylerzap
96 XJs had OBDII and the older dash. If that's what you want to swap too.
