Knucklehead97
Its feeling like my clutch is starting to give out. And I'm wondering if i should replace the clutch in my ba10 or buy a better ax15? How much would a 4x4 ax15 cost, though? And if i got one, what all would i need to change on my truck for it to fit right? Thanks.
92tanMJ
Defidently swap it out for a ax15. Everyone says to swap it out and never look back. But I'll let someone jump in here who knows better than I. Here some links to get you stated: Write ups: http://www.jeeptech.com/convtrans/ax15swap.html http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f19/yj-trans-swap-ba-10-5-ax-15-write-up-312203/ General info on it: http://www.jeepaholics.com/support/Topic595140.aspx http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70388 But like I said Ill let someone else jump in here I'm sure theres a few people here who have 'been there, done that". Knucklehead97
Thanks for the post man! Helped a good bit with cost ideas. I looked around where i was starting and felt lack of power, and i found my tire tracks dug into the wet dirt. Hopefully it was just lack of traction instead of clutch burning out. Ive already gotta get ball joints, front tires, and an alignment so i can go over 43 mph. I really can't afford a clutch or tranny haha. Deff gonna add up costs and start saving for tranny and engine swap though
Geonovast
When you're shopping for an AX-15, try to find yourself one out of an XJ with an external slave. YJ/TJ transmissions can work, but you'll have issues with the T-case smacking the floor. Internal slaves will also work... but then you'll still have an internal slave. What makes you think the clutch is going out? Maybe it's something we can help you fix to get you by.
Knucklehead97
Ive been a little wary of it going out because I'm newto the art of manual transmissions and have been a little hard on the clutch while learning. Then like i said, it seemed like i had no power when i hit the gas going up a hill, but I'm starting to think ot was just my rear end sliding instead of picking up traction. I'm deffinetely going to get an external slave, and I'm thinking of reusing my tcase and just changing to the 23 spline so it will work. I'm going to go for a drive tomorrow and see if it was the clutch, hopefully ill get lucky and it wasn't. Any opinions on using the same tcase with a new shaft? Geonovast
If you can find a 23 spline input for it of the same tooth cut generation for cheap, and don't mind opening up the case, go for it. But you may find that it's going to be easier to find a whole case, or one already on an AX-15. Having a loss of power when you don't have the pedal pushed in cannot be a clutch problem, so your clutch is probably fine. You may want to check the fluid level in the trans, or just flat out change it, though.
Knucklehead97
Ill go ahead and change it to be safe considering who knows the last time it was! I'm just happy that my fear was misplaced. The fund is being started for new engine, tranny, and upgraded axles before my lift begins. Thanks for the help guys. Knucklehead
92tanMJ
I'm NOT sure what fuild the ba10 takes but this the fuild that the ax15 loves and amazon is the cheapest place to get it from. http://www.amazon.com/Red-Line-50304-Manual-Transmission/dp/B000CPCBEQ
