Comanche_Fanatic
ive been having trouble locating an new instrument cluster for my truck, i suspect my fuel gauge and coolant light are both brokenand i want to switch them out to see if it fixes the problem. anyone know where i can find one
AeroNautical
I think I can help you out, but up to what year can the fuel and coolant gauges be? Are they the idiot lights, or full cluster? If it's the idiot lights, I've got 2 or 3 clusters just waiting to be installed by someone other than me, or I could just pull the gauges you need out of one. Keyav8r
From the build info and photos, it's an '86 with column shift automatic and indicator on the column, correct? Hard to tell by the angle of the dash photo, but it looks like your cluster may have a tach. I think a cluster from any Renix MJ or XJ would work with the exception of the 4 cylinder/6 cylinder tach issue. (Unless there is some '86 ONLY thing that I'm not aware of.) Some of the gurus on here may want to jump in and clarify/correct my assumption.

Eagle
don't know what u mean by idiot lights or full cluster. Do you have warning lights for oil pressure, voltage and coolant temperature, or do you have actual gauges? If you have lights, those are "idiot lights." If you have actual gauges, that's a full cluster. The clusters with gauges may or may not also include a tachometer. If you have idiot lights, the lights should be lit when you first turn on the ignition, before starting the engine. If they aren't, check the bulbs. If they light up when you turn on the ignition, the sender may be bad. (Or they may be working properly and you don't have a problem.)

All the bulbs have been replaced, yes all 18 bulbs, thanks napa for bulk prices. My fuel gauge is incorrect, the sender is NEW, and my coolant light is bugging the hell out of me, even tho the coolant sensor has been replaced with an aftermarket one its not in the circuit anymore, I wonder how its possible for it to light up on an open circuit.. AeroNautical
Yeah, from the sounds of it you have the idiot lights. Sorry I wasn't more clear. Do you want the full cluster, or just those specific gauges? I can get you either or, but shipping will be much cheaper with just the gauges. Let me know. ParadiseMJ
Going from lights to gauges will require new senders for coolant and oil pressure. When you go to a parts store and ask for the particular senders they'll ask you "lights or gauges". If they don't, go somewhere else. As far as the cluster is concerned...do they have junkyards in Georgia? That's where I'd be looking. Easy to remove and install. Plug n' play (except for the senders) XJ / MJ interchange. Comanche_Fanatic
I prefer lights, since I don't have to switch out any parts. Originality is the key here, anything out of place just scares me. I'll look in the junkyards but I'd like a new one preferably
