'86 Xls Fuel Tank Size?

I have the '86 XLS longbed with 2.8 chevy motor.

 

Is this a 16 gal tank or larger? I need to know asap to order a part

16 gal was standard. 23 gal was optional. Crawl underneath and look.

I need a 100% sure way to check the fuel tank size, ive been hearing theres 16, 17, 18, 20, and 23 gal tanks for MJs. I've already ordered the part and its for the 23.5 gal tank i just now found out someone drew a number 16 on top of the tank.

I would think it won't matter ..if you have the smaller tank ..now you will have the larger tank..you may just need to move a strap over a notch on the bed or add a strap if the larger tank used 3 .?

I didnt order a tank, i ordered a sending unit.

 

Ps. It has 3 straps already. But tank has number 16 drawn on top

Tank size has nothing to do with sending unit. They're all the same as long as it's for an MJ. If your tank has 3 straps then it's a 23 gallon.

thanks bro, the sending unit came in and it is in fact idencital to the old one, all i need now is to hunt down the filter and the tank seal. back to the stealership!
