If i just rest my foot on the clutch it gradually loses fluid and goes to the floor. It only takes about 5 seconds for the clutch to go from normal feeling to having no pressure. It also loses fluid while driving. I won't be able to shift without pumping the clutch a few times. There is plenty of fluid, do you think my master cylinder is bad. Eagle Posted January 14, 2006 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Are you actually losing fluid, as your post begins by saying, or are you just losing pressure? Sounds like the latter. If you aren't havinbg to refill the master cylinder every day or two, you aren't losing fluid. Losing pressure probably means that the master cylinder or the slave cylinder needs to be replaced. It's unlikely that bleeding will help, but you can try. The bleeder is on the left side of the transmission, where the hydraulic line enters the bellhousing. Is it as simple as unbolting it from the firewall, installing the new one, then bleeding it. Or is there more to insatlling a master cylinder then that? 87manche Posted January 16, 2006 Share Posted January 16, 2006 nope, that's about it. Took me about an hour. Things to watch ot for... The fluid ends up on the fuse block, you need to clean it THOROUGHLY. I'm talking unbolting the fuse block from the firewall, cleaning it with electronic cleaner and replacing all the fuses. You'll want to do this sooner rather than later, trust me on that one. Bleeding the master cylinder was a PITA! I finally rigged an electric vacuum pump to a jar and sucked fluid through it as fast as I could pour it. I'd highly recommend some sort of vacuum bleeder, trying to pressure bleed it got me no where, and we tried for an hour. Took me about 5 minutes with my vac bleeder setup. Don't tighten the master cylinder mounting bolts until you get the hose on. It's much easier to get it together with things loose. Be careful not to cross thread the flare nut, it's difficult to get in there because of the lip on the firewall. That's about all I can think of. mjeff87 Posted January 17, 2006 Share Posted January 17, 2006 X2 on attaching the line to the master BEFORE tightening the mounting nuts....it makes the job alot easier. Also, don't go cheap on the replacement part or you'll end up doing it all over again within a year. I replaced mine with an Autozone el cheapo, and it lasted all of 6 months and about 10K miles before it started leaking out the back :evil: Others have reported similar results. I think all the master cylinders i have found were remanufactured ones.
