anti-christ-comanche
my exhaust fell off the other week so went into the exhaust shop and got it fully replaced new cat muffler and pipes but while there the guy reminded me my exhaust and intake manifold was leaking and said i should get it fixed asap for i could melt the cat and potently burn my valves out. he also said those combination manifolds gaskets are a pain to replace.any tips on doing this job and anything i should check while I'm down there anyway. its a 86 4 banger
87manche1
Its actually not bad on our jeeps theres 2 studs one at the front one at the back. You can leave all wiring together and slide intake and exhaust over. Or disconnect everything and pull them out to clean it up aither way exhaust doughnut needs taken apart since u did the whole exhaust get a new doughnut. Oh and a swivel and extensions are ur friends

54bobby
i need to do this too. i have 2 exhaust mani bolt heads broke. how much of a pita is removing air filter and throttle body? what else needs to be pulled for access?
anti-christ-comanche
ah that little seal...ive removed the throttle body before wasnt to bad to take off the hardest thing to remove was the braket that holds the throttle cable in place once you have that off and the two fuel lines off theres 4 nuts on the intake manifold to pull off and you have it.... here's a great kit to buy has all the gaskets and o rings you need to rebuild the throttle body. get it nice and clean while your at it lol http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=CRB21722A_0306166845 ...BACK TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD! how about any sealants used with the gasket?? flint54
Be mindful of the reduced torque for the front and back studs. If you snap off the rear stud, you will probably have to pull the head to fix it. You may also need to be creative with extensions and swivels to reach some of the lower middle bolts. Torque everything according the pattern, in increments (I usually do 30%, 70%, 100% 100%). Be sure the gasket is correct for your manifold/head. No sealant needed. After a few heat/cool cycles, recheck the torque.
