Goose
Ok, so I'm a pretty big guy, 6'1", 270lbs. My steering wheel sits in my lap. No tilt column. I'm thinking of switching steering wheels, maybe going with a quick disco set up. For those of you that have supermarket wheels, how did it affect driving/steering? What wheel did you go with? Harley
I have this one and don't mind it one bit. http://grantproducts.com/products/view/73/ but I also have a tilt column
Goose
How different is your steering response?
Harley
don't really notice any change. its not that much smaller than the stock wheel
deziped
Smaller wheel makes steering a little busier, and more cranking on corners. A 1" smaller doesn't make much noticeable difference.
mnkyboy
You could swap in a tilt column from an XJ.

AMCJeepMJ
You could swap in a tilt column from an XJ. This. I replaced my tilt column the weekend before Christmas with a fresh rebuild from Steering Columns Galore and it took about two hours... only because it was cold and I needed to warm up every so often. Without spending big bucks on an aftermarket wheel, I pulled a leather-wrapped two spoke wheel from a salvage yard Chevy Celebrity Eurosport and put it on my new column; it has a smaller diameter than the three spoke wheel it replaced and still looks stock. The bowtie came off the horn button very easily.
