Butchershop
I found a gas tank with sending unit intact - pulled from a wrecked '88. Any quick way to check it before I buy it? Yes, I can use a multi-meter.
Geonovast
I believe it's supposed to range from 0 - 88 ohms.
Comanche County
If they've got a battery up in the office you could run some jumper wires to it, or take a battery for a cordless tool and check it. On the three wire connector, use the outer two. Positive is the largest wire of the three and is sort of a light orange/peach color, negative is the other outer wire. This is how I test them, just takes a quick touch and you'll hear the pump spin up. Should hear a plunger like sound as well. Disclaimer: I have no idea if doing this with the pump dry will damage it, so I don't keep prolonged contact with the jumpers. Just long enough to spin'er up once or twice for a few seconds. Just me, but I'd take the pump out of the tank and ensure its not covered in gas, no need to risk a spark around the tank while you're playing with the wires. Even if the yard punches a hole the tank there could still be a residual amount of gas in there.
