airspeed
I found a Dana 44 on craigslist with 3.54 gears for $400, not sure if this is a good deal. My 88 2.5 w/4spd Dana 35 I thought had 3.55 gears? Were there different gears? I have my axle seals leaking and a bit of a whine coming from my rear end, time for an upgrade. mvusse
For practical purposes 3.54 and 3.55 are identical. If it came out of a Comanche, $300 would be a good deal, if it came out of a Cherokee $200 would be a good deal, $400 IMO is a little high no matter what it came out of. Watch out, though, as there are also a million D44 FRONT axles out there, most commonly from a Ford or full size Wagoneer, but I believe also some Chevies. airspeed
He has some good photos of the pinion seal and axle seals, no leaks. It also has a "limited slip" tag. The spring perches look right, I will measure to be sure.
87Chief
Not sure but my 2.5 5speed has 4.11 gears... yours might be 354 though.. and some people sell 44s for $200..
Geonovast
2.5 + 4 speed = 3.55 2.5 + 5 speed = 4.
