Rpm Problem

Recommended Posts

ok so i recently built a 89 mj and used all of my stuff from my 88 xj,

specs

95 h.o with mopar cam and computer

aw4 auto

np231 with sye

d30/44.55 ratio

35"tires

i ran this set up in my xj down the highway turning 1800 rpms at 65 mph

this exact setup in my mj down the highway turns 2400 rpm at 65 mph

i swapped the cluster from my xj into the mj but i can tell its not reading properly but while driving down the highway u can hear the motor is turning a greater rpm.

is the aw4 a 4 speed with overdrive or 3 speed with over drive? while driving from going to d-3 there is a noticeable deference in rpm

what could cause this?

if you swapped all the running gear over then there will be no diffrence, i can't tell from your post waht ratio you have (d30/44.55 ratio) ..but if its 3.55? then 1800 at 65 may be correct. My MJ w 35" tires and 4.10 gears runs 2K at65 in 4th with lock up activate, if your getting 2400 thats about the diffrence you will see when the lockup coverter is not applied. so i would check that first. may be that not getting activated, may be wireing or the switch? the aw4 is 4 speed tranny hence the name, 4th gear is overdrive.
