I'd like to know how similar the new style (97 on up) cherokee doors are to the comanche doors. i'm not looking to replace my doors as they're already painted, but what I was wondering is can the guts off a newer style xj door be put in my stock mj door with no fab-work? I like the 1 piece window, and i'm dying to have the sleaker, power mirrors, also the power windows and even the door panels and such.

shista. looks like it's time to repaint the year and a half old paint job (they didn't take the box off like I asked before they painted it for me, and it's rusting at the seam between the cab corners and rocker panels)

sooo i guess i'll just swap the doors and repaint the whole thing when i get a chance. 1 thing, my comanche has a post on it, not the same type of clip as the new xj door latch umm...latches onto. can i fit that in there?

You're looking at some fab work however you approach it. The location of the latch in the door edge is different on the new style than on the old style (higher, I believe), so you have to relocate the strike on the door post. As long as you have to relocate it anyway, what's a little thing like changing the type of strike? :cheers:

you are correct of course. I'm going to try and find a wrecked 97 to 01 cherokee and use the interior and doors for me, and as long as i'm repainting it when i swap doors, i may as well convert to the newer style front end. the interior will be fairly easy...i hope. I'll have to swap over the wire harness, minus anything that's required to run the 4.0 since i'm running a seperate harness on the 3.8 anyways.

so here's what i plan on doing;

new school doors with all power, mirrors included and newer door panels

updated interior (black preferably, but charcoal ok)

dana 44 or chrysler 8.25 rear end, with 3.53 gears

updated front end

install the split rear

install the camaro keyless entry, and put the trunk release into the toolbox to remove the handles on it (no more key!!!)

and 5.5 inch lift (run my 31x10.50 til they die then new rims and tires)

also i have to extend my front bumpstops to ensure that the front axle won't hit the oil pan and the upper control arms won't hit the motor mounts.

whew, that's alot i wanna do. and i don't even need to!!!! this thing is an endless project, i don't think i'll ever be perfectly happy with it.

Unfortunately thats the problem when you start improving a 4x4.You do all the work then something better comes out that you gotta have. Or you break things playing that you just have to fix and make better so it doesn't break again(hopefully) :oops:

quite so. actually i don't wheel my MJ at all. I only took it offroad once, when the 2.8 was still in it. I didn't much appreciate having mud stuck up in my DD....7 months and infinite washes later.

So now I have another 86 that's rusty as heck, needs floors and rockers. and it's a 2.8 :( solution to that problem is a 1993 3.4l Camaro v6. my how i do like my camaro engines.... jamminz.gif
