dirty88comanche
one day after gettin home from school i went to leave the house quick and she wouldnt stay running. she starts and runs for about a minute. my cousins a mechanic and came up with a few ideas of what it might be. first he thought cause my gas gauge being broken i ran outta gas one day and might have clogged the fuel filter. so first we replaced the fuel filter, and the battery because that ended up dead. then we replaced the fuel pump and it started up and stayed running for a good 10 mins but 2 fuel lines were cracked. so after replacing those is only starts and runs for a minute or so again, it gets the 30psi to start up but it drops right down after start up. anyone have an idea or suggestion as to what else it could be. anything is greatly appericated its an 88 laredo inline 6 4L
87manche
if you're sure it's a fuel pressure problem I would look at the fuel pressure regulator.
mjeff87
Could be the ballast resistor, if yours has one. Look on the innder driverside fender for a white skinny ceramic block with a wire at each end. It's intended to reduce voltage to the pump (in the run position) to help cut down the pump noise. Yours may be overheating as voltage runs thru it and loosing continuity. You can safely bypass it by connecting the wires in/out of it together to see if it's the problem. If it stays running, you can replace it, or just leave it "jumped"....your pump will be a bit noiser, but at least it'll work :) Lemme see if I can find a pic of it, if you don't know what/where it is.... Eagle
Fuel pump. The ballast resistor would cut power to the pump as soon as you release the key from the START position. The engine will run for a few seconds to maybe a minute on the residual pressure in the lines, but it won't run for 10 minutes with no power to the fuel pump.
