head light knob issues

on my 87 2.5l 2wd mj the head light knob seems to be disconnected behind in the dash because its recedes into the dash when i try to push it in. This is not a major problem because i can reach my hand up from under the dash and hold the box in place to shut off my lights. But i just wanted to know how to get to it, i took apart the dash a little bit and saw its not so easy. I also wanna know how its held in place normally, like is it just 2 screws or what not?

There is a nut that the plunger/rod goes through............just take off the nut.

Yep, I just took the switch out of the donor the other day.

There is a round nut behind the switch knob that you can turn to get it off.

Then there was a button at the bottom of the switch to release the knob/rod.

 

If you need a switch, I just so happen to have a spare. :D
