New shifter.

Recommended Posts

can i unplug the TCU, wire up some switches, and control the tranny's gears when in D. I know it defaults to 4th when the TCU is unplugged, but that means both solenoids are OFF. If i send power to them in D, will they go into 1, 2, 3? I think this is what your unit does. Thanks.

EDIT...I did my own thing...pics are a few posts down.

yeah, cause brett's truck doesnt have a TCU its a manual>auto swap with just switches to control it (or it was, idk if he's revamped it since i last read about it)

but you can manually send power to the switches, i don't remember where the diagram/writeup is... it might be on awshifting.com

or go-jeep?

You sure can! my MJ has the AW4. The only reason I did this is because its not really wanting to shift with the transmission computer...and the only way i could get past 1st gear is to run w/o the TCU. without the TCU, you lost 2nd gear, and the torque converter. This was very simple to wire up, and the two guides I used were...

this, page 3 and 4

and this, just for an idea of how to wire it...

THanks for the complements guys.
