Look for shock options

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at my options for some new shocks for Project Shark-Attack. Ive been researching some part numbers and it seems rear shocks for a WJ are proper size and mounting configuration. Can anyone confirm this? Also, I'm planning YJ shocks for the front. This project will have a modest 2" lift.

I can't directly compare to the Bilsteins, These are stainless steel so they won't rust and all BDS suspension parts have a lifetime warranty no questions asked. One note however they don't come with the boots you have to get those extra. I ended up getting them ordered by a local parts supplier that had the boots in stock. The picture doesn't show the quality because it shows all the grain in the stainless reflecting off the flash.

One thing that I noticed is most people use any type of shock they can find that will fit like from a F-250 for instance. Those shocks will have a much tougher valve setting so they will ride rough. Mine rides great because they were designed to work with that vehicle.

i don't think they are stainless, they are more then likely plaited, like foxes or some bilstiens. stick a magnet on them, should stick..

Are you saying the 5100's arent stainless either?

No they are not. They are zinc coated;

BILSTEIN Triple-C Technology®

BILSTEIN’s triple coating process on 5100, 5125, 5160 and 5165 Series shocks provides a long lasting, great looking high

luster finish.

Coating 1: The special zinc alloy ensures excellent adhesion to the base material and is the base for sustained corrosion protection.

Coating 2: The middle coating transforms the zinc layer into a sealed homogenous smooth surface.

Coating 3: The top coat is the final step providing the high luster finish as well as additional, long-term protection against mechanical wear and corrosion. Over 600 hours DIN 50021 SS salt spray test.

How do you like those? How would they compare to a set of Bilstein 5100's? I plan on spending around $300 for a set. I'm not going to skimp on shocks for once.

I have the 5150's up front and the 5100's in the rear, the ride is absolutely amazing for a MJ with 7" of lift on it. I would recommend either of them if your looking for shocks. I had Gabriel Gas Ryder LT's on before, way too stiff.
