stuck tailgate

Ok, so the latest mj I've picked up sat for quite sometime. Tailgate doesn't bulge when I pull the handle. How can I jimmy this open? Thinking about a flatbed project, so going to sell off the shortbox, tailgate, and lights.

A thin flathead screwdriver can fit between the gate & bed (inserted from the backside the tailgate),

and push in the latch.

 

If both sides are hung up, you'd need two screwdrivers to push & hold each latch in, while applying force to open the tailgate.

 

 

If the latches won't budge like this, soak with penetrating oil & try again.
