TheMagician Posted March 24, 2011 Share Posted March 24, 2011 Just switch the wires on the sending unit, this will fix it. Before you re install the sending unit back in the tank, connect the sending unit wire up under the truck and move the float up and down, as you move the float the fuel guage will move and you can determine if it's working properly. I heard some guys say they had to install the XJ fuel guage, but we just switched the wires and worked just fine. The problem we had with the stock MJ fuel tank is the pan in the tank is on the left and the XJ models the pan in the tank is on the right. This means the XJ sending unit will not work in a stock MJ fuel tank. The sending unit float for a MJ points to the left and a XJ the sending unit float points to the right. I hope this helps.
