kyleag89
The D-35 finally started making noises.. time to swap in the 8.25 I have already. How do you guys know where exactly to mount the shock perches? Is there a specific way to do it, or should I just measure? I can obviously figure out the distance from the drum to the perch but how do I figure vertical ways where it should go?
Geonovast
MJs don't use shock mounts welded to the axle, the shocks bolt to the spring plates.
kyleag89
So I can just swap in the 8.25 and be done with it?
Geonovast
Well you still need to relocate the spring perches..
kyleag89
Thats what I am talking about... Is there a page that explains this in a little better detail? My D35 is howling at me, prolly since I have been plowing snow with the truck. :fs1: I am still running the axle on top on the leaves but with 1" lift shackles. maddzz1
If you are going to keep it spring under, than just reweld the perches. The spring plates that have the shock mounts on them are bolt on. They are held on with the u-bolts.
kyleag89
Are you talking about the mount in this picture?
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW
Correct; you will simply need to weld on new spring perches (photo below). If your using a XJ 8.25" the perches from the factory will be on top; thus if you keep is SUA (spring under axle) you won't even need to remove them, simply just weld on new perches in the correct location for the MJ leafs. The shock mounts can be re-used with your factory mounting plates. Just remember to purchase new u-bolts as well as you should never re-use the old bolts. kyleag89
Thanks! Where can I buy a new set? Will these be the ones? I figure if I get a set you pictured it would drop the rear a half inch. http://www.quadratec.com/products/56311_0001.htm
Geonovast
Except the existing XJ perches will be in the way of the U-bolts.. won't they?
Motion Offroad
Thanks! Where can I buy a new set? Will these be the ones? I figure if I get a set you pictured it would drop the rear a half inch. http://www.quadratec.com/products/56311_0001.htm You will need one's that are 2.5" wide; the one's you linked are only 2" wide. You'll want something like this if your worried about height of the perch; http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index. ... ts_id=2256
kyleag89
Thanks for all your input guys. I think I am going to just leave this truck alone. I only need it to last another 3-4 weeks then it will either be parted or just sit in my driveway until I can do something with it.
