jimoshel Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Anybody know of an easier way to remove a windshield, to re-install, than the ol' carefully working a knife, saw blade around the edge until it's loose? I find it hard to believe that in this day and age of modern miracles, and solvents, that there isn't a easier way. :help:
JeepcoMJ Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 heat gun and piano wire works great. cuts out like butter. leave *some* of the old glue on it. like a nickel's thickness if you can. the new glue/epoxy adheres better to that than it does to metal.
jimoshel Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Tried an open flame once and never tried it again because of the smoke. Never even thought of a heat gun. Besides getting grumpy an forgetful in my old age, also getting senile. Thanks Pat, I'll try it. Jim

I just did one yesterday. you need 70 degree heat for at least 24 hours after installing the windshield. it would be nice to have it warm already before you do it, too...the rubber glue comes out easier then.
jimoshel Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Thought. How do you use a heat gun in a JY? No electricity. I'll just work a hole in it and make do with the piano wire.
JeepcoMJ Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Thought. How do you use a heat gun in a JY? No electricity. I'll just work a hole in it and make do with the piano wire. fully charged 12v battery, and a power inverter. ...but, it's $30 for one if I pull it, or $50 for it if they do it. so, I let them do it and save the hassle.
