Output shaft splines?

I've got an 89 4.0 with the aw4 is there a way to tell how many splines my output shaft has? I found a killer deal on a np242 with a 21 spline input...

89 AW-4 should be 21 spline. Even if it's not for some reason, your NP231 23 spline input would swap into the 242.
