sinnaevd Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Anyone ever change a column shift to a floor shift for an auto??? I'm suppose to be picking up a 91 manche with an ax15, so i thought i could use the shifter set up then use an XJ shifter. i know i will have to change the column, but is it as simple as i am thinking it will be??
Scott86mj Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I did it on my 86. I just swaped column and bolted in the shifter. Mine was from tf 904 to aw4. Hope thats what you wanted to hear.
sinnaevd Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 no wiring issues at all?? i think it wil be a better swap, cause when i go to convert it to 4wd i want to make everything nice and easy the new manche has some wiring problems....it could be an intersting winter holiday
87manche Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 the tcu controls all shifting. The only thing the range selector does is tell the trans wheter it's in park, reverse or forward. Grab a console shifter and it's cable, should bolt right up to your aw4, you don't even have to mess with any wires, it's all mechanical.
Speedbump Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Were there more than one (AW4) auto's? I have just started a build on an '88 with a colum shift Auto and assumed it was a AW4.
sinnaevd Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 i thought i read some where that they were, the only major trans change i can remember is the peugot to the ax15, but then again i may be off on a tangent instead of the secant....damnit i hate calculus

BrettM Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 what motor? the AW4 is the only auto tranny the factory put behind the 4.0 in XJs. there are other auto trannys for other engines though.
