streetjeep2.5 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Considering this swap. Got a 87 4x2 with 2.5 and 4speed. Cylinder went lean and busted the compression ring and put a "divit" in the cyl wall. Donor would be 91 4x2 w 4.0 and AW4. I know I would need the wiring, but how much under dash stuff do I need? Of course radiator and all the specific to 4.0 engine compartment stuff. I would need the 4.0 fuel pump, right? What about the front springs? Should swap rear diff also, I suppose. Pedals should be easy enough. Would I need a newer gauge cluster? Yep, exhaust header pipe, etc. Probably simpler: 2.5 has 60,000 on a rebuild so take it in, get it sleeved, slap some fresh bearings in it and drive it!
Geonovast Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Everything needs to be swapped. Your rear axle is the same. 2.5/4 speed and 4.0/auto used the same gears.
streetjeep2.5 Posted October 28, 2010 Author Posted October 28, 2010 Yea, gearing is the same, but don't 4.0's generally have other than a 35 at the back?
Suuperman Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 No...the D-35 is probably the most commonly used rear axle in the smaller jeeps (except CJ's) from 1986-2000+ regardless
