jimmy21669
So the internal slave on my AX4 went out...so... My question is this: I have been wanting to do a 4x4 conversion on my 87 2.5 SWB for a while, and I have a 94 YJ AX5 and 231 with external slave in my garage. Will the 95 YJ AX5 bolt up in place of my 87 AX4 without issue? It seems like it should...but just wanting to check with the knowledge base here before proceeding. Thanks p.s. I know about the cross-member relocation and drive-shaft issues already.

Geonovast
Yes, but obviously you'll need to run a new clutch line for the external slave. Everything else will go right in. Only other issue you may run into is the T-case clocking, Wronglers clock it up a few more degrees, hitting the floor is an issue with AX-15s, not sure about the AX-5s Also, are you keeping the 3.55 gears? 5th might seem a bit doggy if you don't go with 4.10s, which are what came with the 5 speeds. You'll need a shorter rear shaft, and obviously a front shaft, but there are no crossmember changes.

Ok, I was misguided into thinking it had to be moved back. As far as the clocking...that is what a 20lb "persuader" is for. I plan on going to 4:10's....for now I just won't use 5th...lol... I actually have a line on the holy grail...an 84 XJ with 2.5 and the tow package...stock 4:56's. Just trying to get the guy to sell.
