AX15 4WD shifter bracket for 92 MJ

I'm looking for the bracket that holds the 4WD cables on the transmission. It's the last thing I need for my 2WD to 4WD conversion. My MJ is a 92 "Base" the transmission I used was an AX15 and the little bracket I got out of an 80s MJ didn't work. I think because it may not be the same year, but I am asking the Tech forums before I attempt to locate one on the internet and order it. It's the last thing I need so I'll be searching tonight.

i don't see the linkage bracket on that picture you linked.

 

you're looking for the plate that mounts with two of the transfer-case stud/nuts and has the bushing for the pivot shaft to ride in?

 

it wouldn't fit in my truck either but i chocked it up to the fact that my AX is a YJ model. i rigged somethign up.

 

maybe someone with first-hand XJ ax15 experience can help

You got the linkage for the AX15.....

 

You need the.....I think it is called a "trunnion", It's actually the part that has four bolts that bolt to the floor.

 

Many people forget to grab this part making the assumption that it is the same between the BA10 and AX15.

 

The BA10 part has the hole for the linkage in the middle, the AX15 part has the hole, I think towards the front.

 

In other words the hole is off center to one end, don't remember which end.

 

I'd suggest getting complete linkage for a AX-15, including the trunnion from a JY.

 

BTW there are no "cables", just mechanical linkages.

I don't know for sure what my AX15 was in before because I got it out of someones back yard. It's in my truck now and it works great; had no other problems besides this little bracket that connects to the lever that changes from 2 wheel high to 4 wheel high/low. Basically I don't have anything to hold the cables in place.

 

Just what did you "chock" up so I can possibly mimic it. Maybe a picture would help me and if you don't mind, a description would be nice too.

You got the linkage for the AX15.....

Ok, I would love to do your suggestion and get the complete linkage for the AX-15, if that set includes the parts I'll need to fix my problem. Can you post me a link to order it? I will start looking for what you posted tonight.

Do this instead....<$20, shifts smooth, gets rid of all that weird stuff....you won't regret it.

Yup, that'l work. Did it to one of my MJs. Took $0 dollars, and a lot of time and effort.

 

Crawl under the truck, check, crawl out, modify/weld, crawl back under, modify/weld.............

 

I would gladly spend money for a stock bracket than to do it again.

Would this work? I want to order one today so I can get my truck on the road asap but I'm still not sure and am pretty much alone here.

 

This is a forum talking about the linkage and someone suggests ordering a product, I just wondering if people have tried it and could guide me in the right direction.

You see that little hole right above (57), that's where the bracket I need goes. I need someone to say something along the lines of "oh I know what that is, order that" or "look there". I've been looking but I don't actually know the name of the part I'm looking for.

I'm going to post a couple pictures I snapped from my phone of the same bracket on an MJ with what I believe is a Peugeot 5-speed transmission.

 

I think it's only requires one bolt. My friend and I are trying to link up my shifting lever to engage the 4WD with the lever in the truck.

 

We need instructions on where to get the part and if I can't get it I'll need some kind of way around it.

 

This little bitty linkage bracket is becoming frustrating. :wall: :fs1:

that is the part i was trying to explain earlier.

 

the AX15 uses a completely different mount on the tranny side. its a plate the bolts back on the t-case bolts and wraps around the side of the tranny with that mounting hole. i wish someone had pics they could post

Awesome, thank you very much; now all I need to do is get home so I can view your picture, because can't view it here at work.

 

But anyway can you give me a name of the "mounting system" or a direct link to order it. I will buy a brand new one if I could find it. But I really just want to order one asap so I can get it finished and driveable.

^^^ I tried to fab that linkage up on my AX15/231 and it didn't work. The geometry between the end of the shifter and the linkage tab on the range shaft on the TC was uncooperative (they were too close together). I think the OP was running an AW4 and had more space inbetween the two.

I did fab that linkage for AX-15 231. Far as I can tell it will work.

 

Made the linkage. Just have to finish the truck, for real world testing results.

 

Far too much effort for what the linkage is worth to fab vs stock.

If you wheel your rig, or live in a snowy area, the corrosion on the t-case linkage SUCKS. Look at most other straight linkages, this mod merely mocks that. It is NOT jerry rigged. It is a simple solution to a common problem. If you follow the write-up, it is easy. I have done it multiple times with great success, and don't have any of the sticky shifter or other problems the stock linkage caused. The only thing you have to do is be sure the heim joint link you create is STRAIGHT and not at an angle and it works perfectly.

 

BTW...it is MUCH easier to install than trying to RECREATE the stock scissor pattern.

Does anyone have one for sale that will work on my MJ? If I can't order a stock one or an aftermarket one then I'll take these instructions to my shop and have them fabricate me one up. I'm sure they understand the linkage set-ups and stuff, so I won't have to be too descriptive on the instructions.

the guy's right though, looks like it would be alot more straightforwards on a AW4 rig, mine is ax15 and the t-case shifter is right up next to the floor-shifter. might not work, but i'm still gonna give it a try. I'm worried it won't have neough room to flex with the trans mount.
