-SHANE-
I'm on my way to the u pull wreckers to get the parts needed to rebuild my broken leafs. while i have the back end all apart I'm going to do the SOA lift witch is about + 5" . i went to get the rs9000 gas shocks this morning & its rated for + 3" of lift so my Q: do i need to relocate my shock mounts to the top of the axle ? kinda makes sense to relocate them . has anyone performed this b4 ? Pete M
several of us have reused the stock shocks be relocating the mounts above the axle. It's not ideal, but has been proven to work. I think the easiest version I saw was to flip them upside down and swap sides left to right.
-SHANE-
ok nice i found a 1991 2wd comanche at the wreckers pretty much striped only the cab is sitting on the frame & 2 leaf still attached. can i use them leafs on my 4x4 ? instead of fixing mine the 91 all so has 2 bucket seats & center console & i really want to change my bench seat . i asked how much and was told take what ever u want off it for 250 cuz its on its way to the crusher
Pete M
yes, you can use those 2wd leafs. They will sit slightly lower than 4wd leafs but not much. I'm running modified 2wd leafs on my 88 in SOA fashion.

Make sure you get your moneys worth. Remember, they couldnt care less about the truck. They know that you do. All they really care about is your $$$$
TrailReadyMJ
:agree: If they won't let you have just the parts you need for less, make sure you can get your money's worth! They probably don't have $250 in the whole jeep, and they'll get at least that just out of the scrap metal once crushed. That especially high if you have to pull the parts too! I tried the stock shocks above the axle... for a minute... but if you plan to wheel it, they will severely limit wheel travel! Next I just welded brackets to the axle and used longer shocks: Then when I did my 8.8 swap I ended up completely relocating mine, so the shocks are not the limiting factor when flexing off-road. By in-boarding the top mounts, they only travel half as much for the given amount of wheel travel. Note that this does create more sway, but I used pretty stiff shocks and it rides great. With the shocks at this angle, the dampening is reduced greatly, therefore the stiff shocks don't ride so stiff. I may have a bit too much of an angle on them though, and will probably reduce the angle a bit when I have to change shocks again. Flexes good, and feels very well balanced! Same spot, two angles. Notice the front and rear wheel travel is about equal.
-SHANE-
ya the leaf springs are 150 & they wanted $100 for the bucket seats ,center console, doors, mirrors & tail lights I'm taking my manche to a spring specialty shop to have it repaired but i am going back the the wreckers for whats left of the 1991 2wd maybe i can just take the whole cab off ... i think ill just drive the manche stock for the winter then next summer ill build her in to my trail rig
64 Cheyenne
Quote: maybe i can just take the whole cab off ... Um...... Your MJ is a unibody, you can't just take the cab off. Far as seats, console and doors, If the seats are black and in good shape, then maybe; otherwise I would offer them $40 bucks for the tail lights, maybe something for the seat mounts and walk away. Pete M
if you're talking about using the floor brackets, your bench has the same brackets. the bench just has one track per side instead of 2.
