lanciat
I'm getting ready to replace the passenger side window regulator in my '89 MJ, and have found lots of helpful information using the search feature. But there's one aspect of the project on which I haven't found much information: namely, tricks on removing the existing regulator from the door. Is it necessary to remove the vertical cross brace from the large opening in the bottom of the door (the brace is riveted in place in my MJ) in order to remove a regulator that has otherwise been unbolted/unriveted from the door and window glass? :help: Thanks in advance for any and all help! lanciat
:dunno: Anyone? How about this: the vertical cross brace in the lower door opening that I'm referring to appears to be the regulator guide bar (don't know if that's applicable to manual window regulators like mine, but it appears to be the case for power windows). If I'm right, it has to be un-riveted and removed in order to get the old regulator out of the door. Can anyone confirm?
Bounty Hunter
I could use the same help as I need to replace both of mine. Will be watching for answers.
mfpdm
You can get it out without removing the bar but it is easier to take it out then put it back in with nuts and bolts. I pulled mine with it in but when I swapped to electric windows, I took them out for better access. If you pull the vent window out and the glass it will make it 100% easier to get it out and back in.
lanciat
Thanks very much. Looks like it's shaping up to be a complete disassembly of the door. I'd better make sure that the regulators I pull from the bone yard are good . . . . Once I remove the vent window and rubber wipes for the main window, I suppose it's simple just to pull the main window glass out of the door? I ask because it looks near impossible to remove the bolt assembly from the bottom of the main window glass after loosening the nut that holds the glass to the regulator -- the plastic and metal discs on either side of the glass appear to be glued on. Do those discs interfere with removal of the main window glass from the door?
