Which bucket seats will work?

I understand that not all bucket seats are not a driect bolt in. Which buckets seats should I be looking for that are a direct bolt in from an XJ or any other jeep. Ones that also fold forward would be a bonus as well. I have seen the posts where you can take / make it work but I'd just like to take the bench seat out and put buckets in. I also plan on using the center console / armrest. the Easy, peazy, japanesey way. So any information would be appreciated.

I know of a guy that had his 99 2-door XJ wrecked / totaled, so I have some access to parts. What else should I strip off of it?

the only buckets that are direct bolt in are MJ seats. you can make xj seats, and possibly others work, using the factory MJ seat sliders

I bought MJ slider brackets off ebay ($$$$) and 92xj seats from a two door. Everthing on mine unbolt and bolted directly back on. The later 97 Up xj seats will not bolt right up. There is a link on here where some one installed newer XJ seats with some fabbing. There is a way also to use the MJ bench brackets on xj seats but I do not think they will slide to adjust. Then theres xj seats that used a "rocker" they sit quite a bit higher in the MJ. Try the search theres tons of seat posts mor ethan I can ever tell ya.

OK... I just wasnt sure which ones were easier to work with because I got a guy who who is parting out a 1999 2 door XJ. I was going to snag the seats and console.... So... it sounds like it'd be more of a pain than not huh? Anyone out there try this with a 1997 and newer seats? I saw a few of the write ups and may have to go back and check and see what years they did it with.

The bench seat in the "mighty manche" just aint gettin' it no more.

If I had access to buckets from a 2 door XJ I'd do it a minute.

 

All you really need to do is drill out the "rivets" on the XJ brackets/sliders and replace them with the MJ brackets/sliders

Yes GRAB them no real differance in them and MJ buckets except the bases I drove over 3 hours to find mine and they did not even use rivets they had bolts in them. And its not really that bad using the MJ bench bases. I will try to find the link to the write up on here there is one. And do not forget to get the seat belts on the floor the bucket seat ones stand up on there own the bench ones fall down.

Good stuff guys, thanks. I will not forget to get the seatbelts, I'll be sure to add it to the list. I also plan on grabbing some lighting fixtures amongst other things. What else would you grab if you were I? I can't wait to be riding along in those comfy buckets.

And I can pretty much grab anything I want off of this 99 2 door XJ, its getting scrapped. I already bought the Gamblers with 30's on them, good price. just now what else.

there are lots of stuff that can be made to work from a 97+ XJ. Some is a direct bolt in but most is not. the grill, front bumper and fenders are a direct bolt in. 4 door doors fit but the striker needs to be moved. the door mirrors are a direct swap and theyre bigger. the rear axle is swappable but the spring perches will need to be moved. the master cylinder and booster is a good swap. better braking power. I'm using a 97+ windshield washer bottle because they are inside the drivers fender and i wanted to clean up the engine bay up a bit. ill be using the vapor canister from a 97+ because they mount under the body for a less cluttered engine bay. the dash will bolt in but the gauges won't work with your ecm. transmission would bolt up if you have a 4.0 but not sure about the tcu. use the radiator to convert to a non-pressurized cooling system. etc. and on and on... anything can be made to fit.

Hey, thanks for the inputs. I'm probably going to grab alot of those parts. One that I ddin't think of was the radiator to convert to an open cooling system. He's keeping the rearend and already sold the engine and tranny, engine was a 2.5. But I guess I'll see when me and the kid get out there with our tool bag.

if you grab the brake booster there might be a spacer between it and the booster. youll need that too. can't remember what years that applies to.

Second on the mirrors. Nice upgrade. I have one on the drivers side installed. Better view. Have not installed passenger side mirror till I get the power mirror control worked out.

 

Put 2 door wing back buckets in place of the factory bench seat. They are better seats, look Great, match the upgraded interior. But I am sure there are better buckets to use. Meaning more comfortable. Some Toyota Supra buckets are supposed to be very good. When I find a set, I will look hard at them. Volvo seats can be very comfortable as well.

the mirrors are good but given the choice i would take the whole doors.

Wonder if I can swap the window glass from a 97+ into the older doors?
