blue monday
Just a quick question, Can the oil pan be remove while the engine is still in the truck? I don't want to have to undo the motor mount and jack up the motor. It is a 1988 mj with a 4.0 iL6 motor. I just want to change the oil pump and inspect the bottom end. One of the former owners used a lot of sealant on the pan and it may have fouled the pump, no oil pressure and it hasn't spun a bearing yet. If this is going to be a big project I'll sell the truck. It can be done. It is not fun but completely doable. The bigger the lift the easier this is to do as well.
comanche12
yup you can do it while engine stay in the engine bay but of course more lift more easier to work on it like mine. i did mine total 3 hours but fyi you have to remove the exhaust and starter to able remove oil pan easier
fiatslug87
Jack up the truck, support the body and let the front axle drop as far as possible, I had to disconnect the steering stabilizer or was it the track bar and maybe the starter but not the exhaust on my 4.0 4x4. It's been a while.
