A pin fell out of my oil pan. where does it go??!!

alright so i recently purchased a re-manufactured motor and in the bottom of the crate was this little pin. about an inch in length. i didn't really think much of it but then when i was tearing my old motor apart the same pin fell out of the oil pan when i took it off. It just looks like just some guide pin but i have no idea where it goes. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? . if not i'll be sure to post up a picture. thanks for the help guys.

Picture would be great, there shouldn't be any pins in the pan..

So what engine do you have, a catepillar, SB chevy, or maybe a 2.5 or 4,0?

haha sorry for the lack of information. yeah its a 4.0 on a 1990. i'll get a pic up here in a little bit.
