For some reason I remember reading that it wouldn't work for years prior to '90 I think it was... http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/te ... eCover.htm
thejeepguyonline
check my thred viewtopic.php?f=7&t=26907 i have done it to all of my jeeps and no longer have any problems with the blow by of oil. it works! if you have the ability to change a valve cover gasket then you can do this swap. you use a late model 1996 thru 2001 stamped steel valve cover from an Cherokee or the same or later years of grand's or wrangler's. i just read thru the link you sent with your post and find the problem that the article was speeking of was about the stock system cloging up and not breathing correctly. this is a completly different case than that of the early cover problems. the new style cover uses a windage try design the allows the blow by air to excape and not draw the oil into the venting system. Fezzik
Ok, so yesterday I stopped by a PnP and picked up a '97 ZJ valve cover, now I just need to get a gasket, new CCV parts, and some paint, so I can clean it up. I'm hoping for a Monday install date for that, But today since it stopped raining for a little bit at least, I decided to see what was up with my drivers sided door speaker, it had been working, but since I replaced my PS door speaker last week that was really the only one I heard, The old speaker was not good. Image Not Found That's exactly what the pass side speaker looked like, but some how this one was still working, And here's the new speaker that was put in. Sounds a lot better, who would have guessed :clapping: Now I just need to find the time to take the B-Pillars off to replace the rear speakers, currently only the pass side one is working, but again, not very well so I wonder what condition that one is in. While I had the door panel off I also moved the Drivers mirror from my parts '95 XJ, while not a '97+ like I'm looking for, this one I can at least move from the inside and I don't have to worry about this one moving in the wind on the highway like the old one did. Fezzik
ok, well the rain was still holding off so I figured that I wasn't done for the day, I ended up swapping the rear speakers out too, now I have all 4 working!! The issue with the drivers side one was the wire that goes from the connector to the cone on the speaker was broken, The old and new speakers Image Not Found I didn't have adaptors so I just used some spare wire and the old male connector off the old speaker Image Not Found and here it is mounted in the truck, it also shows the rear speaker bracket
