over heating

i have a 1990 comanche 4.0 with a 5 speed i just put a new water pump and thermostat and it over heats in a couple min... radiator? or a head gasket i just bought it its been sitting for 5 years

Was it overheating prior to the work, or did you do the work because of the pump seal was leaking fluid, or what?

Does it have the overheat light or temp gauge, could it be the sending unit?

I changed mine from a light to the full gauges, got a cheap sending unit from a chain parts store instead of the dealer and mine reads in the red all the time.

i did the same thing but havent replaced the sending unit but it over heats but my hood smokeing and the resevoir cap blowing off and i loose most of my coolant my gage don't tell me anything cuz i havent replaced the sender
