Brake rotors the wrong size??

Recommended Posts

I bought rotors and pads for the front axle on my 88 Comanche. I took them to a place to get installed and they told me I had the wrong parts. These are the ones Advance Auto Parts gave me. The rotors that the shop wants me to buy are $100 a piece. I call bull$#!&. The rotors are not made of gold.

So does anyone have the exact specs for the brake rotors and pads? The shop said the rotors for 2wd and 4wd are different. I don't believe it.

Thoughts?? Before I plop $100 apiece for these? I am not going to, but these can't be too far off from the right ones....

So do you have 2 or 4WD?

Prices from O'Reilly's:

2WD: $31.99 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0062

4WD: $39.99 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0062

These are just the base, house brand rotors... and your price. If you look at the "Wagner" 2WD rotors, they are 89.99 ea, and I bet the shop where you took your stuff to is selling it to you at "list" at around $100. I always say use quality stuff in the front, I.E. Raybestos, Wagner... Etc, since it takes all the heavy braking and heat. The rears are the only place I will put a house brand brake component.

More often than not I do a side job on fronts with house brand stuff, and it squeaks, rattles, or warps quick. I usually warn people, but they never heed the advice. :smart:

2wd sorry. I called Advance and they sold me the wrong part. Guy said they are the same price, he will have them there for me in the afternoon. I would get the good $#!&, but I have a Dana 44 front and 9" read that will be installed soon. I'll have to get new brakes all over again. The problem here is the shop. If I bring in rotors, shop has knowledge of what kind they are, and knowing this, try to upsell me by $67 a rotor. "Thats what they do", ah quit it. I worked customer service, I know the guy will say no, even if I ask nice. If you want to sell, get something closely priced to the item he brought in. If he bought the cheapies, he did so for a reason. He isnt going to buy yours just because now he's in your shop.

Can't you do them and save the cash? Hubbed rotors are cake... Also, are you sure you need rotors? Since you stated that your going to swap axles soon, why not just "pad slap" it until you put the new axles in?

Axle swap I want done before winter, I want 4 wheel drive for winter. My problem was the caliper bolts, I thought they were frozen. I took them to a guy, he only charged $45 to do it, and I sat right there and watched him. So, I know know what to do, and he also didn't mess anything up. He knew what he was doing, and blew right through it. I consider $45 to learn how to do them from now on a good deal.

Now that I got those rotors replaced, the truck feels like it is brand new. No more shake in the front end, before any speed above 55 was scary. I think I can hit 70 now. jamminz.gif

Next will be everything for the ignition and fuel systems, I think that will bring back my power that was missing. Then I save for the axle swap, I already have the axles. Just need the hardware.
