AX-5 Tranny

I was just wonder if the two and four wheel drive AX-5 are interchangeable I assume they are like any other truck tranny but just checking with you guys.

output shafts and tailshaft housings are different.

 

otherwise, they are the same...but you need both and some skill to turn one into the other. a nice press is necessary.

No 4x4 truck with bad tranny want to put a two wheel in it.

I'm betting your layshaft or a layshaft bearing is screwed.

 

Identical to the 2wd Layshaft, you should be able to swap it in and retain 4wd.

 

I would at least take the 4wd trans apart and see if the 2wd one can save it before popping the 2wd one in.
