BigMac72
First off I'd like to introduce myself - I'm John and I live in Colorado. I finally got my hands on a Comanche Custom after previously owning Cherokee's, Grand Cherokee's, and a few Wranglers. So far I absolutely love this truck and I can't wait to get my hand dirty and restore this thing. It's a 1986, 4-Cylinder, 7' Bed, with 147,000 miles on it. Surprisingly theres only 3 very small rust spots on the body. It's straight, and runs very well. I'd like to find out from others out there what they've done, or their ideas on a few things: 1. Interior Lighting - I really want it to be brighter without getting a stick on light. 2. Gauges - I'm getting older and my eye sight isn't what it used to be and I'd like to brighten up the gauges and go with a white gauge cover. Does anyone know where I can find a white gauge cover and also how to brighten up the gauges? 3. Cup Holders - I only need one since I can care less about my passenger (not to sound unreasonable, but it's my truck - LOL). That's about it for now - I'll be posting progress pictures on the forum as time goes on. I'm a Painter and I specialize in Airbrush and Pinstriping so look for something a little out of the ordinary. All my basecoats will be House of Kolor and my striping will be 1 Shot Enamel. I'm not sure what to do as far as graphics go - maybe a bunch of skulls on the hood and tailgate and who knows on the sides. I look forward to talking with everyone!!!! johnnyc
Hi John. Welcome. For the interior lights, I got some cheapo lights from Pep Boys and put some LED bulbs in. Not super bright, but pretty good. Other guys here have used lights from a Porsche and a Discovery. Do a search and you'll find them in the Projects forum. I got some white gauge overlays from a guy on eBay. They're just paper but they look good. I colored the needles red and again put some LED bulbs in. For cupholders, I put in a 97+ Cherokee center console that has two real cupholders.
BigMac72
Wow - that looks amazing!!!!!! You say its not that great, but compared to mine it looks like day time!!!!! You don't by chance remember the guy from ebay or your search terminology do you? It's unreal that LED's, Discovery, and Porshe lights will work - I'm heading out to buy something new tomorrow. Thanks!!!! Hi John. Welcome. For the interior lights, I got some cheapo lights from Pep Boys and put some LED bulbs in. Not super bright, but pretty good. Thanks!!!! The interior dome lights with LEDs are the ones that aren't that great. Maybe some better bulbs would help. The gauge lights did turn out pretty good. I'm really happy with them. Here's the link to the place where I got them. He also has an eBay store. He's a real nice guy. http://jeepwhitegauges.com/index-xj.htm
